Moved

April 23rd, 2007

Oh yes – moved house. Now in new home sans Internet (*bites knuckles*) for a little while. Well not totally sans Internet – I am connecting my Linux box to the world via PPP over dial-up. Yes – welcome back to my childhood. In case anyone interested iinet provided some old instructions for running up a ppp connection. That was useful because it’s been about ten years since I last did it. And AT commands (otherwise known as the Hayes command set)? Wow. It’s been a long time since I typed AT anything. But I got there in the end.

This, however, does mean I am not IM nor Skype. If you want to chat – call my mobile. :)

P.S. Oh yes – house good, lots of little things that need to be fixed, cats come home this weekend, etc, etc.

Japan mulls beefing up gun laws

April 19th, 2007

I rest my case regarding idiot Americans. Japan has one high profile shooting death – the response? A beefing up of gun control laws.

America? Well, let’s keep upholding the abused and misunderstood right to bear arms – even at the expense of the lives of our citizens. Again, and again, and again.

American logic

April 18th, 2007

A Korean student armed with two handguns kills 32 students and then himself

What should we ban? Koreans or firearms?

Well naturally it’d be Koreans. Guns don’t kill people – Koreans do.

P.S. Yes I am awfully sorry about the students who died but surely it’s about time Americans grew up when it comes to firearms.

The Pixies – oh yes – The Pixies

April 7th, 2007

We went and saw The Pixies – and it was way cool. I mean way cool. I am still humming along. I was going to write a summary and but beat me too it because she’s like a nerd and blogs all the time and stuff.

But anyway the “we” in her post me and her. You can read it here.

New house

April 2nd, 2007

Well I finally managed to buy a house – settlement middle of April. It’s in Collingwood – a hop, skip and jump (in the unlikely event I ever exercise) from my current home. It’s a little further away from the city but still close enough for my needs.

I had been looking in Brunswick but had decided Collingwood a much more sensible venue. It’s closer in and most of the places I looked at in West Brunswick were quite a hike from shops and transport. Especially since I am either foot or wheels.

It’s a nice little single-fronted weather board house with three bedrooms, an open plan living area, two bathrooms and a nice kitchen – mmmm nice kitchen. Actually having a kitchen I can cook in going to be great – my current digs are not conducive to easy cooking as I have no room and no bench space and limited fridge size. So perhaps if I have any money left over I might buy a new fridge … and possibly a new washing machine given how fucked my current one . Sick of lint-covered clothes. :)

I have some y’all can have a look at here (not my furniture BTW – previous owners…).

Comment and trackback spam

April 1st, 2007

spam. We hates it. Started to get hit by comment and trackback spam. Which most annoying. Comes in fits and starts and some mornings – like this morning – a small mountain of trackback notifications were floating in my mailbox. So I am going to try to fight back – installed the EE Bad Behaviour plug-in and locked down my comment and trackback settings. This does mean that you can’t add more than two links in a comment now but hell – barely anyone other than spam bots actually comments so… :)
