Geographically challenged

  • Thursday May 4th, 2006

This story is downright scary. I have often cited an old Economist article which did a similar survey during the first Gulf War and where most Americans couldn’t find Iraq on the map - indeed several respondents who indicated some weird places at being Iraq - the Falklands and North Dakota for example. Seems the situation is little changed. And what’s worse apparently 1/3 of those surveyed couldn’t find Louisiana on the map. I can find probably most US states approximately on the map - I get a little lost up New England way - and indeed I even know the capital cities of most US states - and I don’t even sodding live there. Americans you should be ashamed.
