friday five

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?

Yes and no. I love some forms of shopping. I like shops and record stores. Also bottle shops (naturally) and gourmet food stores. I like second hand clothes stores. I loathe supermarkets and department stores. Far too crowded.

2. What was the last thing you purchased?

A litre of milk.

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?

Not fussed either way. Less people online though.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?

Don’t remember. 50 cents a week? Nup if the memory was there it gone now.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?

I often have second thoughts about the house. Mortgage pretty scary at times. But generally I tend to be comfortable with things I buy.

Oh. And this – an online Tolkien encyclopedia very cool.

Busy, busy

November 27th, 2003

Crazy busy with about twenty million projects. Some exciting news. But more that later.

Reading, reading, reading…

Visit Sarah Hepola. Well worth reading. Though her story about scabs somewhat cringeful.

The Origins of the American Military Coup of 2012

November 24th, 2003

An interesting document. Particularly in light of recent comments by General Tommy Franks and other military figures – who really should hire some decent PR people. Or not open their mouths topics other than military matters.

friday five

1. List five things you’d like to accomplish by the end of the year.

Finish writing a decent piece of fiction, finish reading Neal Stephenson’s Quicksilver, lodge the DA for our renovations, stop Boojum’s attacking me every morning at 5am and attempt to introduce a little calm into my life.

2. List five people you’ve lost contact with that you’d like to hear from again.

People who I’ve lost contact with and who I’d like to know are getting alright but perhaps not totally renew our acquaintance – Anna, Trina and Saf.

People who I’ve lost contact with and who I’d actually like to see again – Joh *sigh* and Jon M.

3. List five things you’d like to learn how to do.

Speak Spanish, roller blade, cook Vietnamese food, use Photoshop properly and hmm – I don’t know about like to – but damn it driving might have to be in there somewhere (again).

4. List five things you’d do if you won the lottery (no limit).

No limit? Travel – a lot. Donate to charity. Buy our ideal home – and the beach house for those retreats and the farm for retirement. :) Retire and oh did I mention travel?

5. List five things you do that you relax.

Drinking, smoking, reading, writing and Lu (sometimes :) ).

War critics astonished as US hawk admits invasion was illegal

November 21st, 2003

The Hawk’ish Richard Perle has admitted the in Iraq was illegal. The arrogance amazing – it’s like “Hi. We’ve done it now – invaded Iraq. There nothing you can do to change that. So now? Yep. That’s right. We don’t care what we say or do – just like we didn’t care what you though either!”

Also interesting to note at the bottom of the article it looks like America may the British prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay. Almost certainly only to salve British sentiments the issue and to prop up Blair’s sagging popularity. Now if only our sycophantic little leader could stimulate that sort of response from Bush our nationals might be released as well.

Read this. A literary mag with material from the likes of Maggie Estep, Zak Mucha, Joe R. Lansdale and Andrew Vachss. Cool people who write some bloody cool stuff.
