Well more work done on the pMachine templates site – it’ll be at pmtemplate.kartar.net when it’s done (nothing there yet) – just arranged for another MySQL database to be installed and activated the sub-domain. So I have got one and a half templates to complete and the install instructions to finish writing and work out the best way to set up trackback/pingbacks. Should be finished hopefully sometime this weekend. But we’ll see how we go

Further dull updates
July 23rd, 2003Updates
July 22nd, 2003Meandering along – doing business simulations for a new ERP implementation. Going suspiciously well for this sort of thing. Also trying to build up an Outlook template for a call logging system. Not very successfully so far.
The template count :- another template completed. 2 to go.
House moving: all but three boxes in the house unpacked. About thirty boxes of books in the garage – no where to put them until we look at the renovating thing.
Working, working…
July 21st, 2003Work, work, code, code. Job cost analysis. Work, work, code, code, swear. Fix bloody Outlook problem. Work, work, code, code. Grumble not enough hours in the day.
Template count: Two down. Three to go. Way to go me.
House moving status: All items moved into new house. Now I just have to suffer through the endless ‘Just move the couch over there again’ routine. I wonder how many times she got the removalists to move it once they had put it in the house. Guess I’ll find when I get home.
Moving pains
July 20th, 2003Stressed. Moving all the breakable ‘don’t want the movers to touch’ stuff and trying to get some work and other activities done at the same time. So far moving stuff is going fine but I have a fair bit of work to catch up on when it’s all done. I also wanted to make a dent in the pMachine templates I have been thinking off – currently have the base site, the site structure and selected the templates I want to display. I just started the first template – 2 column, left menu. Once I have the base menu and ‘pretty’ bits done I’ll duplicate that template page and make all the extra pages – archives, categories, search, comments, track and ping back etc. I just hate having to update a whole lot of pages when you change basic layout stuff – which is why I use CSS and PHP includes for most of my sites. But I can’t see a good way of using PHP includes for these because people need to be able to download the source. Ah well. I’ll work something out I guess.
the friday five
July 18th, 2003Oh dear this one is going to be interesting.
1. When was the last time you cheated?
About five years ago I cheated on a partner. Did not end well.
2. When was the last time you stole?
Um. Think I might have stolen a tumbler from the pub a couple of months ago. I forgot to return a monitor to my old work too. But since it wasn’t intentional…
3. When was the last time you lied?
I’m a lousy liar these days. Blush a lot when fibbing. I think I told my boss a couple white lies about a project completion date last week – which he didn’t believe for a second.
4. When was the last time you broke or vandalized another’s property?
A long time ago I guess. Drunkenly smashed a rubbish bin after I tripped over it on the way home. Must have been ten years ago.
5. When was the last time you hurt a loved one?
Violence? Probably my sister as a kid – we played fairly rough. Recently? Never. I don’t hit people. Violence is not an answer. It’s merely the response of moral cowards and the emotionally stunted who are unable to face or deal with their emotional and psychological issues.
Emotionally? All the time. Lu and I fight a lot – she’s Spanish and fiery and I am me and damned stubborn. So we both get hurt in the battles. Five minutes later we’re usually fine – except in the car – think it’s something about driving and confined spaces but if we fight in the car then we can both sulk for hours.
Drunk as a skunk
July 17th, 2003Am at the new house. Came over to check on things and put the trash cans into the garage – rubbish was collected last night and all. Left Lu in bed and well and truly asleep and I meandered over here knowing stuff needed to be done and house needed to be checked (no fun not living here – mail overloaded – several thousand dollars of computer gear sitting in house – etc, etc). Had a few drinks after work and then a few beers at home whilst finishing my book and have realised I am quite drunk. So I have stopped here to sober up enough to wander home. Given my current disposition it might take a while.

July 17th, 2003Tired and emotional ad nauseum Mark II
July 15th, 2003Am back in Sydney. Tired. Did a mountain of work last night to catch up with two days off. Worked at the new house – odd feeling it’s still mostly devoid of furniture except my gear – we move all of the furniture, the cats and us early next week. I moved the data comms early though because Telstra (better known as Hellstra) being what it is I could only get one guaranteed date to move the cable.
Picked our monsters up from the cattery they were very conflicted. They were obviously in need of serious affection but then were also very annoyed because we’d left them in a strange place for five days. So our big black monster alternatively rubbed violently against me and purred and then changed his mind and swiped me with his claws. Poor bastards are in for a further shock next week when we move into the new house. They will be most grumpy at their routines being disturbed again. They have had a rough time of it – a lot of the furniture moved out of the house for the open houses, people trooping in and out at least twice a week for four weeks, then the cattery and now a move. They must think it’s all a terrible conspiracy to upset them and their life. Little brains will probably be working overtime on methods to get revenge.
And yes…
July 12th, 2003I am in Queensland. And Qantas. Fuckers. The less said about how a ONE hour plane ride took EIGHT hours yesterday the better. Given the number of problems we had I suppose I should be lucky the plane didn’t crash. Who knew you needed to ‘reboot’ the plane?
Friday Five
July 12th, 20031. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
Liam McGee. We were friends in primary school. We bonded over music we liked (early to mid 80s English and Australian pop/rock) and which our peers hated.
2. Are you still in touch with this person?
Haven’t seen him in more than 15 years.
3. Do you have a current close friend?
Probably not just one specific close friend. BR, BT and Mefcon are probably all fairly close male friends. K and B are my closest female friends. In the virtual Rane is probably fairly close given I talk to her everyday.
4. How did you become friends with this person?
The people listed above I met through work, university, shared houses and random quirks of fate.
5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
Not really. I suppose it’d be nice to hear news every now and again from people that I have lost contact with. But there is no one I really regret not catching up with and staying in contact with.
